Set Up a Filing System with a Used File Cabinet

 

 

One of the best ways to get some use out of a used file cabinet is to take some time and establish just what your filing needs are. We all know how valuable a cabinet can be when it comes to not only storing, but also filing your important papers and documents in an order that will make them easy to find in the future. The task of setting up your new system can be relatively easy, depending on how many piles of paper you have to organize.


There are many different ways in which you can choose to file your documents and folders. Many people find it easiest to file alphabetically, while others may choose to sort by category. Others may have a need to file by date, this can be especially handy when it comes to tax papers. You may also have an expense account that requires you to keep up with your spending, including receipts. Your used file cabinet will be a great tool, no matter which method you choose.


Once you have chosen the way of filing that will work best for you, you will have to begin sorting through the stacks of paper that you want to store in your used file cabinet. This is a great time to really look at the papers you have been saving and discard what is no longer important or needed. Purging any excess papers will have the added benefit of giving you a bit of extra room for the future. If you have chosen the category approach, you will want to sort through your paperwork and place certain documents in piles according to categories, such as actions files (require a response from you), references, taxes and so forth.


If you choose another method to fill your used file cabinet, you will want to make sure you arrange the files in the way that is easiest for you to use. If you do them in an alphabetical order, be sure to keep the papers inside the folders in order as well so you can easily get your hands on them when you need them. Filing in this manner can also prove to be helpful if you have an expense account, which requires you to keep up with receipts for any period of time. You can sort your receipts by the various types, such as fuel, entertainment, supplies, etc. Filing by date is another popular option. You can easily place your bills and invoices that have already been paid in monthly file folders, labeled with the date.


To take maximum advantage of your used file cabinet, find the system that works best for you and put it to good use. It is not a difficult task to get your important papers and documents in order. And you can just bet that you will be thrilled with the outcome for quite a long time. There is a wonderful peace that comes from knowing that you will not have an important paper get misplaced again. This is a wonderful tool that can be utilized to organize your home or your office.
