In many offices, space is at a premium. There isn’t enough justification to set up a permanent test area, yet the need arises for a testing area from time to time. If you are in the position where you can’t dedicate a private space to this activity, foldable room dividers might be just what you need. They are extremely easy to put up, move around, and if you have to store them for a while, they don’t take up a lot of space. Even if you do have a space to dedicate to a testing area, you will still find these foldable dividers to be very handy, as the number of people that you have to accommodate will likely vary from one session to the next. You can also store or stack the extra room dividers when you don’t need them, even within the room itself.
You may however, find that you don’t want to store the dividers when your test area is not in use. They are so handy that you can usually find a spot for them. For example, they work really well to set up a beverage area, or just in a hallway as a way to display pictures or information for people who pass by them. Most of the foldable room dividers that are available are actually made of durable cloth covering, which makes it very easy to affix things to them.
When you are setting up your test area, whether you need to set up only one to accommodate a single person or several, you will have a few choices. For example, do you want to completely enclose the space? Or will you be better accommodated to separate a few desks in a large room to keep the testers in a semi-private area? If you need the latter, you might find it easier to work with a floor plan of the space first, done roughly to scale. It will then be easier to calculate how many people you can accommodate, given the sizes of their desks and the placement of the foldable room dividers. Don’t forget to leave space for traffic areas too.
One of the great things about portable room dividers is that they come in different heights and in different colors, so you should be able to find something that fits in with your existing office decor. They also help to muffle sounds, which can be very important in a test area as some people are quite easily disturbed by the sounds of others. Many of them are also designed to link together, so you could use them to divide a whole room, or to create a completely enclosed individual testing area.
Modular partitions and foldable room dividers aren’t all made the same. Make sure the ones you are looking at for your test area are designed to do double duty as sound barriers, and that they are made of a fabric that has been treated to preserve the cloth. This will help insure a long life for the product you choose.
